Reiki 101: How to Find the Best Reiki Practitioner

Are you having trouble selecting the right Reiki practitioner? As Reiki becomes more popular, there are more and more practitioners offering services in any given area. Choosing the right Reiki practitioner is important after all, it is your healing session.

There are many factors to consider when choosing a Reiki practitioner including personality, style, experience, and spirituality. Here are some tips on how to find the right Reiki practitioner for you.

Ask for recommendations from friends

Try asking family and friends to find a Reiki healer near you. Ask them questions like “What has your experience been like with this healer?”. Another option is finding a Reiki practitioner online. There are many websites associated with alternative healing. To find the best Reiki practitioner, make sure to read testimonials or reviews from past clients.

Check your potential healer’s Reiki Lineage

Reiki Lineage is a direct line of teaching that the Reiki professional has been trained in, that connects them to Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki

Ask your potential healer about their Reiki Lineage. It will help you learn about the healer’s teacher(s) and the Reiki system(s) they have learnt.

There are various Reiki systems prevalent across the globe that have been developed by different Reiki Masters over the years. Each Reiki system has various beginner and intermediate levels leading up to the Master level.

“You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that. We think so often that we are helpless, but we’re not. We always have the power of our minds…Claim and consciously use your power.”

― Louise L. Hay

Identify the Reiki system and the level at which they practice

A professional Reiki practitioner should have studied 2nd-degree Reiki or beyond of any Reiki system. If they have just 1st-degree Reiki training, they cannot heal others effectively. The higher their level, more powerful their Reiki is.

Usui, Holy Fire® and Karuna Reiki® systems are amongst the most widely used Reiki systems worldwide.

Most experienced Reiki healers tend to master multiple Reiki systems from different Reiki Masters and use them in their sessions for effective healing.

Learn about their practice and sessions

Look for a Reiki healer who has been practicing at least for a few years. Ask them how often they practice and how they give Reiki session to those they are healing: remotely or in person.

The more comprehensive information you have about your healer the better you will be able to gauge their skills and experience.

Find a Reiki practitioner who practices Self-Reiki regularly

Your healer will be your partner throughout your journey. That’s why it’s important to find a Reiki practitioner that became a healer through the desire to heal themselves and others. A Reiki practitioner that has healed themselves can often provide insight into the inter- and intra-personal exploration that takes place when learning to heal.

Take a healing session with the Reiki healer

Take a healing session and evaluate your own personal connection to the Reiki practitioner’s style, lineage, and practice. Then you must continually check in with yourself during and after healing to see how the experience feels.

Remember, when choosing a Reiki practitioner, be sure to trust your intuition. If someone “feels” right to you, then you can take a healing session with them and see how it goes. On the other hand, if someone “feels” wrong, then that person might not be the right fit for you no matter how highly recommended that person might be.
