How Reiki Helps Improve Your Health and Overall Wellbeing

Whether you’re experiencing high level of stress, recovering after surgery or facing a health condition, it’s important to consider including Reiki therapy as part of your healing process.

Reiki is a Japanese word that means “universal life-force energy.” This type of treatment removes all the energy blocks causing physical, mental, and emotional issues—treating your mind, body and spirit holistically.

Reiki helps with the following conditions:

  • Cancer symptoms
  • Chronic pain
  • Digestive problems
  • Stress-related illnesses
  • Psychological distress (Depression and Anxiety)

How Reiki Sessions Work

Reiki works by channeling healing energy from the practitioner’s hands into the recipient’s body. This energy is known to work on physical, mental, and spiritual levels to clear blockages, balance the energy centers, and promote healing and relaxation.

Reiki sessions typically involve the client lying on a massage table, bed, sofa or a chair in a comfortable, relaxed position. The Reiki practitioner then places their hands either directly (in-person)or towards (remote) the body, in various positions, while the client remains still and relaxed. While allowing the Universal Life Force Energy to flow through their hands into the client’s body, the practitioner moves through the standard hand positions several times based on the flow of energy that they’re feeling through their hands.

If you’re attending a Reiki session for the first time, avoid wearing tight or restrictive clothes. Instead, you need to wear loose, comfortable clothing without any bulky items. It is also important to dress in layers in case you get too warm or cool during the session.

The session usually lasts between 60 to 90 minutes. During the session, the client may feel warmth, coolness, tingling, or a deep sense of relaxation and may even fall asleep.

“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.”

– B.K.S. Iyengar

What to Expect After a Reiki Session

After a Reiki session, you might feel less stressed, lighter, and more relaxed. However, if you have a health condition, you still need to visit your doctor and follow your treatment plan. It is important to note that Reiki should never replace your regular medical care.

Although Reiki can’t replace your regular medical care, it complements other types of medical and therapeutic treatments, and it can increase the efficacy of other types of healing. If you’re already in good health, you can use Reiki as a preventive medicine to enhance your ability to respond to stress.
